Each Book Excavation begins by cutting a hole in the cover of a book with a scalpel or x-acto blade. I cut my way through the pages selectively keeping fragments of images and words to create a composition using the content of the book as it emerges.

In this way a sculptural relief emerges as I carve my way though the pages. Excavation was a interesting Excavations on Black Mesa for me, the second book by James Rollins that I 1983 book read, the first being Amazonia.

To put it mildly I loved Amazonia, one of my favorite books I have read in the last year or so. Yet, the best I can say about Excavation is that it was alright. What I found with this book is it is basically the first edition 4/5.

The Black Mesa Archaeological Project (BMAP) is one of the largest, longest running projects in the history of North American archaeology. Fieldwork spanned 17 years (from to ) and at its peak employed more than persons in a single summer.

This early carbon paint type is simply the beginning of Classic Mesa Verde Black-on-white which, apparently, was well developed by A. (Lancaster and Van Cleave, "Excavation of Sun Point Pueblo," in this volume).

Typical forms of this finest Mesa Verde pottery are bowls, ladles, water jars, 1983 book jars, and mugs. The recent excavation of Site 16 in Mesa Verde National Park (Lancaster and Pinkley, "Excavation at Site 16" in this volume) shows a persistence of Mancos Black-on-white until A.

(Schulman,pp. ), and an utter lack of carbon paint which precludes the very beginnings of Mesa Verde Black-on-white (including McElmo) by that time.
